I have a pretty serious phobia of multivitamins... I know it sounds so strange, but it all started when I had my first panic attack. I was 16 and the only thing I could think of that I did differently that day was that I took one of my mom's multivitamins. I know it's not what caused it, but ever since then I have been afraid of them. My heart pounds and I get so anxious when I even see a bottle of them, or on the shelves at walmart. My boyfriend was wondering today if I have been getting all my vitamins since I have been on my diet, and he told me I might have to take multivitamins. I broke down. I told him no and to never tell me that ever again, and started crying. I refuse to ever take them. I can't even think about them without feeling anxious!

I don’t think this is strange at all. Sometimes just because other people can not see the fear from your point of view doesn’t mean it’s strange or you should try to push yourself to get over it. I can see that in some cases you need to challenge certain fears if they hold you back. However this is one were I think you can accept it’s your choice and you have a good reason to back up not taking them and associating them with bad memories. Everyone has something that can seem strange to other people but has a meaning to them why it’s a fear and something they avoid at all cost. They also probably aviod telling others becasue they think it will be seen as strange.
Personally my fear is I have never swallowed a tablet in my life, I swallowed an ice cube whole by accident when I was about 5 years old. Even sometimes now sucking on sweets scares me in case I swallow it by mistake. I am 19 now and I can tell you this I will never get over this fear and I can accept that. However silly it may seem to others, the thought of choking is just too much for me. I don’t take any medication so I can get away with this fear so to speak and when I have a head ache I take dissolvable pain killers instead. Sorry if this wasn’t helpful. Wish you all the best |
