I am afraid of birds. Silly right?

Well no, it isn't. You see, their claws will dig into my skin and rip it to shreds. Their beaks will peck my eyes out. If I see a bird and it lands near me, I take off. The only safe birds are dead, and on the TV/Computer.

Dont worry about the birds, if you want, you can see a psycologist about them. Im sure this will all be resolved soon. If anything, the birds are more afraid of you than you are of them. good luck

if you have a phobia of birds, I'd advice talking with your T about it. Phobias usually derive from traumatic experiences. if you can figure out the source of your phobia, you should be able to manage it. Until then, dont worry. The worst you have to worry about is a bird pooping on your windsheild, unless you are a dead animal the birds wont come near you.

It seems you are suffering from Ornithophobia. It is not uncommon. The signs of ornithophobia will vary depends on its severiety. Are you fear of large birds, wild birds or all birds?

All birds. I want to kill all birds. From condors to sparrows.

I also suffer from Ornithophobia. I really really really cannot get near a bird, it has even progressed to other things that fly such as butterflies. It started when I was a really small child. I have even tried owning a pet bird which lasted, well not long at all, I just could not handle it.

I however tho, do not think it is silly. It is a real fear that many people experience. Yes I think they will peck me to death with their beaks and rip me apart with their talons. It doesn't even help when I don't know anyone who has perished this way. And Birds well, I do not want to kill them, I think that might entail somehow getting near them. I don't wish to harm them, I just wish them to never come within 500 ft of me.

The worst I have to worry about is the my back yard is a heron rookery, and that I have black birds with yellow and red tipped wings that literally dive bomb my head while hanging out in my back yard doing yard work, just pooping would be preferable. I also have humming birds that get way to close for my liking. We have a few bald eagles and owls, woodpeckers ect. It's not the best environment for me.

Do you want to overcome this?
Thanks for this!

Ackman12 - I agree with Anika, fears aren't silly even if the majority of people don't share your fear. Some fears like spiders or snakes are easier to understand, but that doesn't diminish less common fears. Rational or irrational, they still equal a genuine fear and no matter how much we try to reassure this person, it won't help. I met a lady at the dollar store and she had to go to the back room, when balloons were being inflated - to most this may seem silly, but not to this lady.

When I was a kid i watched the movie The Birds and this was scary. If this fear is interfering with a normal life or causing you abnormal stress...then you could see a therapist who specializes in slow desensitization of fears and phobias. Some birds can peck, especially when they have babies or a nest nearby....so its smart to have a healthy respect for some birds. Don't feel your fear is silly - these are your feelings and I hope it gets better for you.

Hi
Fortunately, this can be cured. Ornithophobia generally responds well to CBT. A trained therapist can help you in confronting your fear, substituting your negative thoughts with more positive talk. Systematic desensitization will also help this cause, in which the affected person is gradually exposed to birds.

If your phobia is intense, hypnosis and/or medications may be employed in conjunction with CBT. The goal is to bring down your fear to a manageable degree so that you are able to begin to go through it.

Ornithophobia, or fear of birds, is not unusual. However under the guidance of a trained therapist, you can combat your phobia.
