Maybe this is a stupid question. I have panic attacks when I am in a room with a lot of people I don't know. I usually leave the room and stay hidden until the people go away. I can't talk to people when I am like this. I just take a clonipin,
or take deeps breaths until I am ok. This is how I cope with anxiety now. When I was young I had several experiences with bullies that wanted to beat me up. When I was confronted by bullies, I would just pound the crap out of them, then run like hell.I'm just wondering about my fear and adrenalin rush. Maybe I was having some form of panic attack. I suppose when we are adults, we don't cope with anxiety the same as when we are young.Has anyone else experienced something like this. |

yea, you get adrenaline (fight-flight-freeze) surges when you have anxiety attacks. It is essentially the same thing.

i just learned that my panic attacks and ptsd flashbacks are just a huge serge of adrenaline! i take xanax now because it works within 20 mins or so....clonapine takes longer to work...at least for me. One is short acting and one is long acting...might be worth asking your doc about! It has made a huge difference to me!

Hi Piraeus! Yeah, I used to get (still do to an extent) social anxiety. Any room full of people and all I wanted to do was run away - usually ended up making a lame excuse to leave, or going out for a breath of air..People would wonder where I'd gone, as I wouldn't come back for ages. Purely social situations like parties were the worst for me as I felt so exposed.
Trouble is the association gets fixed. Crowd of people = anxiety / running away = solution. So I just kept repeating the pattern. It was only years later that I learnt what was going on with me. I think you're right about adrenaline & anxiety. But have you tried any CBT type approaches as well as the meds? Good luck with it. I'm glad you've got this place to ask for ideas and support. __________________ xxx This Too Will Pass xxx ......Love Coffee, Cats and Cool Music...... ...http://www.stress-relief-workshop.com/... |
