I'm currently on Lexapro which treats my anxiety perfectly but the sexual side effects bother me enough that I would like to try something else. I'm wondering what else is there though? I just want to research my options before my next psych appointment.

Thanks for this!

You might want to research zoloft for depression ive taken it in the past and it works although im on celexa now. Also buspar 10mg 3xs a day works good for my anxiety. .I feel the ativan worked alittle better but buspar is safer.

I am on Remeron, which targets both depression and anxiety. I am usually bothered by all sorts of side effects with meds - so far the only thing I notice is some minor daytime tiredness. Remeron supposedly has positive effects on libido and doesn't have the sexual side effects many other meds have.

I take trazadone for depression and anxiety.
It also helps me sleep. I do have sexual side effects, but I'm
More interested in alleviating my symptoms than anything else.

My doc told me it's a trade off taking meds. My creativity is nearly
non existent. I sure wish I had my creativity back.
I used to love writing poems and songs. Maybe in time, my
creativity will come back.

I hope you find what you need. Good luck

I'm on Celexa... it's an antidepressant, but I'm on it for anxiety.

Ty for the post. I'm at exactly the same position right now.

ETA: except that my reason for switching is, I think the Lexapro started creating some depression.

I'm on Zoloft and Wellbutrin but side effects are a ******. For me Zoloft has sexual side effects that obviously suck and fatigue but it keeps my anxiety under control. The Wellbutrin helps me with the depression and fatigue and hallucinations but it has also taken away my creative abilities.

I'm on Depramil (Citalopram) for depression and anxiety and it has really helped my anxiety. I have only had one mild panic attack in the last 6 months

I'm taking Lovan which is apparently supposed to be good for treating anxiety as well as depression. So far it has just made me exhausted and dopey. Maybe that's how they're supposed to work; make you so tired that you can't even be bothered to be anxious anymore.

Beta-blockers are good for treating the symptoms of anxiety, such as shaking, etc. They're not really for long term use, though. I was on Propranolol, I think... I lost the bottle lol

Spoiltmom,

Several years ago I was on Paxil, and it worked wonders for my anxiety. One of the downsides was weight gain , so I went off of it.

Currently I am taking Effexor for anxiety, it is supposed to work well for it. I'll let you know how it goes. You may want to ask your Pdoc about it. It comes in XR and generic.

What anxiety meds have you been on?

When I saw my GP and told him about my anxiety (and also about my depression). I think (although I can't exactly remember) he recommended Citalopram. However, I requested Fluoxetine (Prozac) since I've used it before (although I wasn't suffering from anxiety then). I think he told me we could experiment, see how things go. Start with Fluoxetine and maybe switch drugs if things don't improve. I'm due to see him soon so he can check how the Fluoxetine is going (I've been on it for the last 5-6 weeks now). Hope that helps.
