Hey guys, so I experience a lot of mood swings during the day. At first I thought it might be due to bipolar disorder, however from what I gathered in the bipolar section, bipolar mood changes usually last days to weeks, whereas I experience multiple shifts a day. For example, I was recently at a friends BBQ/party and was playing beach volleyball, generally having a good time, when suddenly out of nowhere I felt overcome with sadness and felt like I could break down and cry. It went away later that night, but this kind of thing has been happening a lot lately. Usually when I'm feeling sad or happy, there's an undercurrent of anxiety/irritability/restlessness.

I was wondering if mood swings are commonly associated with an anxiety disorder such as GAD?

I have gad and do get frequent mood swings, just getting mad when i should and want to be happy, same with sad and everything. Your t or pdoc can tell you best what is causing this but it makes sense. With gad your always high strung and intense with fear, it makes sense that it would cause your other emotions to go all haywire
Thanks for this!

Thanks for the reply! Okay, so that's interesting. Is it possible to have GAD without actually worrying about particular things? One of the biggest symptoms I've read is chronic worrying, and I don't really have that. I just feel a lot of the physical symptoms associated with anxiety along with my depression and normal/good moods.

Well, most of my anxiety seems to be unwarranted to me. Well it did. I could be mentally perfectly happy, yet something felt just wrong. I am still that way. While I'm really excited about something, I still have that really uneasy physical feeling. Most of anxiety, I don't know why it's there. I get to uneasy feeling but can't pin point why. Same with anger and everything. I get the physical feelings over the negative thoughts but the negative thoughts are there as well. For me I'm learning that the cause of these feelings are triggers. Things that subconsciously remind me of my past and of my fears, even though I don't notice them myself, something inside me gets triggered by reminders and causes these feelings.
It's definately something to work with t about. I am just now learning only some of the many triggers I have, once you learn what triggers these feelings, you can learn to work through them

I have mood swings all the time from anxiety. But once I've realized why I'm having them (anxiety) its easier to just let the mood ride it's way out. Irritability is a problem with me. Same thing really it'll just come out of no where and little things will annoy me. But I just try and let it pass. Best of luck. It doesn't sound like bipolar but obviously I'm no doctor.
