I'm considering doing EMDR with a therapist. I'd like to know from those who have experience with this type of therapy if the experience was a positive one and how helpful it was in the recovery process or if there are potentially any problems associated with it. Thanks.

I'm a clinical counselor who has been treating trauma with EMDR for 18 years. For a better understanding of how the brain responds to trauma, I encourage you to read Getting Past Your Past by the developer of EMDR, Francine Shapiro. Many of the answers to your questions lie between these pages. I hope you pursue EMDR therapy and wish you the best for the successful outcome I know can be in store for you.
