Currently I am on:
lamictal 100mg
Xanax 1mg PRN
newly added
Paxil 10mg
Propanprlol (???)
Klonapin

or is it more of a trial and error to figure it out? I been on over 20 meds + with no luck finding anything that helps outside the benzos

The benzos are the traditional drugs used for anxiety. I, too, take Klonopin. Anybody else know of other categories of drugs that can help?

I find it pretty aggravating that there just doesn't seem to be a better approach than trial and error to find the right meds. I've been on a mix and match odyssey for a couple of years now, trying to find the right combination of meds, therapy and working on (with?) myself so I can peacefully co-exist with my mental health issues and get on with my life.

I'm doing pretty well currently on Lamictal (250mg), Effexor (175mg), Propranolol (20-40mg.) If I can anticipate an anxiety provoking situation and take the Propranolol about 30 minutes beforehand, I can cope. To the extent that that is not always possible, its still a challenge.

And not sleeping continues to be an issue. A smallish dose of Trazadone doesn't really put me to sleep well and I wake up too groggy to function. A higher does puts me to sleep too well and I sleep a whole day away. I'm going to try Ambien next. I have taken it in the past and I recall it did work. I can't recall why I stopped using it. So we'll see.

Good luck on your journey! I'd love to hear updates on how you're doing.

I tried both Xanax and Klonapin but that didn't even touch my anxiety. I now take 20mg of Prozac and that seems to have reduced the anxiety level low enough for me to function outside.
