I've always been fearful of spiders....but the last two nights, there has been a tarantula camped outside my door....I'd never seen one in real life before. The first night, my boyfriend was with me, and was quite confused when I bolted up the walkway until he saw what I was running from. He nudged it away with his foot and I was able to go inside. Last night, I returned home alone, to find another one or perhaps the same one, in the same spot. I called my boyfriend, thinking with him on the phone, I could get in my door but I couldn't. I have NEVER felt this kind of fear, being utterly terrified and practically paralyzed. After about 20 minutes on the phone, I began sobbing hysterically and he insisted on coming over to nudge it away so I could get inside. I locked myself in my car until he got there. I know this is completely irrational. I know it won't run after me. But I was so scared to put my back to it to unlock my two doors. What am I gonna do if this keeps happening? My boyfriend can't come running every time I come home after dark. I googled arachnophobia and found suggestions to learn more about that which I fear, so I studied tarantulas a bit, and I know I'm safe for now, because they're nocturnal. But I'm afraid to go outside, even though the sun is shining. I know they're out there....what can I do? I've never experienced this bad of an irrational fear before. I've had fear when sensing danger, that's normal. This is dibilitating. I couldn't get into my apartment, and then had thoughts that this spider was stalking me. Why weren't there any in front of the other doors? Why just mine? Why is it out to get me? Please!!! They can't even see anything but light and dark. Anyway....I know that phobias are anxiety attacks, so I thought I'd post here to try and find some experience strength and hope so that I don't hold myself hostage to the dark......please help!

Sorry youre going through this. I dont know that much about arachnophobia, but I have heard that its more common than we think. I dont really like spiders, but fortunately I live in a place where spiders are harmless. I tolerate them. Have you talked to your doctor or a counsellor about your fears?
