I am getting ready to have a panic attack. I live in Indiana and the county I live in is under a tornado watch till 5pm. I am home alone till at least 3:30. I hate storms but tornados scare me the most. How do you guys stay calm when faced with something you fear. I need help.

It's really really hard to stay calm. I hope someone else has some advice that will work, the only thing that has helped me before is taking deep breaths and then if it gets really bad, I will totally wrap myself in a blanket like a burrito. Sounds weird, but something about the tightness of the blanket, and then I scootch around some pillows so I am completly encased, makes me feel more secure. I have heard they make wraps like that for dogs for this very reason...Know it sounds silly but maybe it will work for you?

I hope you are doing all right, I am in the Midwest too and it is SO WINDY!

I will try the blanket thing. My boyfriend will be getting off work soon so I hope he gets home before I do panic.

I'm still trying to learn ways to calm myself down, so I am sorry that you are in the middle of a tornado warning -- I feel the same way! I'm cool with thunderstorms but I'm so afraid of tornadoes!

AngelWolf: I also love to wrap myself in a blanket. Whenever I am panicking and at home that is essentially all I do -- lay in bed and cuddle with blankets, pillows, and my stuffed dog and cat. I always feel the need to hide. I'm 21 but I love my stuffed animals.

Does your county use air raid sirens when there's a tornado warning or watch? I used to live in Cincinnati, and they used the old air raid sirens. Whenever I heard them, my hair stood on end and I wanted to run and I felt so scared. I wasn't scared about the thought of a tornado in the area. I knew how to stay safe. It was simply the sound of the siren. I never got used to it and wouldn't calm down until the siren shut off. The thought of a tornado in the area is bad enough, but if you have to listen to the gosh-awful air raid siren, too...
