I'm sure this is an issue that crops up a lot, and I'm sorry if you've heard this song before a few times but I'm having some difficulty moving and dealing with homesickness. It's not that I feel my symptoms are very unusual or severe it's just that for a lot of reasons I don't think I should be acting this way. I've only moved about 40 minutes away (I used to commute from my parents house) and now live with close family to be closer to work. I have a great job and the house we live in is really nice, I text and communicate with my parents often and I'm sure will see them a lot.
However, it's only been a few days and I'm feeling horrible, I slept very little the first night, despite being exhausted and have little focus on anything else but my issues. I'm not a great sleeper to begin with and have had terrible anxiety in the past and now I don't know what to do to help not exasperate the problem any more. Any help any of you hear could offer would be greatly appreciated. |

Is this the first time you have lived away from your home? You say the house you are living in is nice but are you comfortable with the new living arrangements i.e. the people?
I experienced homesickness the first time I moved away to another state about 800 miles away. Initially it was just adjusting to being away but ultimately I discovered that the situation I was in was not for me and I moved back home. Homesickness is a lonely, lousy feeling. Good thing you have your parents support as you sort this out. ![]() |

I've lived with other relatives before, but only during the week, I always came home on the weekends. I really like the people I'm living with, they're really great , I think this is the right decision for me..I have no reason to think it's not. I just feel lousy and it's usually peaking first thing in the morning when I'm getting ready for work which sets the tone for the rest of the day

Good to know your living arrangements are not the cause of your anxiety.
Morning is always my worst time for anxiety ... as the day goes on, I get better. So for me, morning anxiety doesn't set the tone for the whole day but sometimes in the early morning I forget that it always gets better and I get overly invested in my anxious feelings ... it goes something like this ... how long is it going to last, I feel lousy, what can I do to make it better ... When my head finally gets to "this, too, shall pass" and accept the feelings then I do better. |
