This may sounds a little egotistical, however I've always thought I would have at least a normal IQ as I feel I'm smart. Not necessarily book smart, but I could tell you every possible thing you need to know about many animal/computer things.

Anyway, so for an IEP school thing, I had to take an IQ test. The results came back that my IQ is below normal and I was devastated, I most likely shouldn't have looked at it because I know how I get.

Though I've been wondering if it could not be a fair result, given that I wasn't exactly calm when I took it? There was a teacher in the room, and I have problems with teachers, so I was quite anxious at the time. Not to mention that for the one part of the IQ test (Where you match blocks together to make the shape they show on the card) I could only use one hand because I was frantically petting Bella at the same time. It's also rare that I go out in public, so I was anxious about that.

So just wondering, could it be cause by the anxiety that I got a bad score, or is it just me?

that is a good question because I have a relatively high IQ and have always wondered if it was the reason for my high anxiety. My guess today is neither probably we both just suffer anxiety at during special times and need to control it better. I think over the years i have learned to not assume my IQ had much at all to do with my emotion maybe it doesn't do much of anything to your emotional state other than to give you th ability to control your emotoinal response.

I don't think you can really rely on these tests at all. IQ has to do with many things, not just putting "forms" together.

I remember I was in my psychiatrists office during a session and while I can't remember exactly what we were talking about, it had to do with one of my issues and I was trying to "see" both sides of the issue, and was 'talking it out.' Then he all of a sudden said "You're extremely intelligent." That shocked the heck out of me because I'd never thought of myself like that. He went on to say that since he'd seen me, I'd been able to "see" other sides of issues where many can't.

I'd taken an IQ test before and it was below normal, so I assumed I was pretty much a dope. LOL I never did well in school, i.e. math, econ., anything to do with numbers. So I have NEVER thought of myself as very smart. I still don't.

So i don't give much credence to those tests. Take care! Hugs, Lee

You could try getting your hands on some propranolol. They use it for stage fright. I think that taking a test like this would be in the same category. Too bad it is prescription only. On the other hand, if you are already seeing someone for prescriptions, so much the better. You can always take another IQ test and see if addressing the anxiety improves your results.

I believe IQ to be a range. I'm been told that I have an extremely high IQ but sometimes I just have to wonder. Depression is my biggest problem. Can't think myself through folding laundry when I'm depressed. But I don't believe in IQ tests either. Don't frighten yourself with information that is not useful to you in daily life. There are many types of IQ. So math's not your thing. Didn't use to be mine either. Trained myself to understand it.

If you were that anxious then you were not at your best while taking the test. I doubt it really reflects your abilities.
