I will be starting a new job with another vet clinic soon, i've already worked at one before and always had an issue with putting animals down. I didn't at my last job but this one I may have to. I just get overwhelmed with anxiety and sometimes panic since death is one of my triggers. But I can't turn the job down. Is there anyone out there with the same issue or maybe some help on how to lessen the effects? I can't take meds and would rather not, and I don't have health insurance if it gets to that point. Any ideas or suggestions?

That does sound like a very anxiety triggering job duty.
![]() Sounds like you'd have to work on the grief process and learn how to detach your emotions, in some way. I wish I had some answers, really just wanted to give you a ![]() |

I went to school for vet tech training and am planning on going back in the future.
the only advise I can think of would be over exposure. Eventually you see enough of it that numbs down or at least that's how it seemed to work for me when I was in school.

I am so sorry, and can understand your experience. It is very difficult. I spent many years working with animals at shelters. Only, no kill though. I then had an opportunity to work for the vet who treated our shelter animals for pay. All went ok, until one day she told me that she would be putting a dog down. The owners didn't have the money to pay. I offered to take the dog, illness and all. And was told that she had to honor the owners request. I had to leave the job. I didn't have any regrets.
I wish you well, it will be a challenge for you for sure. It takes a big heart to and gentle hands to do this much needed work. Good luck. warm regards, Jade
