Met with my t for a second time. He indicated that he was having problems pinpointing my diagnosis because it is rather complicated. But he believes I am bipolar (atypical), depressed, have anxiety, agitation and mild OCD. He wants me medicated and seemed a bit irritated because I am really not open to seeing a psychiatrist. I would rather work with my primary. I signed the release so they could talk. I emailed my primary and asked if he would call the t. He did but had to leave a message. But now, the primary would rather I find a psychiatrist.

The t wants me on mood stabilizers and anti-depressants with anxiety pills only when needed.

This is becoming way to complicated. I want to run. I am sorry I ever started down this road.

I think you will be glad in the long run with getting a Psychiatrist. They are more knowledgeable than a GP about the medications you need for your issues. I do understand how you feel. I have a blood clot in my leg and it is huge. My GP has been handling it and after three months it's about half the size it was but still there. He is now referring me to a Hematologist, which didn't make me happy either. I hate to have to keep going to specialists. You have to retell your story everytime, not to mention they cost more. So I guess we are both in the same boat, but have little choice in the matter. Good luck with finding a psychiatrist you like.

I hope you can find a good pshyciatrist, also i will pray about your blood clot, gaylegg, and Shandar, maybe it wouldn't be such a bad idea to get on some meds, i've been on meds over 20 years now, have ups and downs, but the meds seem to give me a bit of a grip on my symptoms, before they get out of hand.

My reaction to this is regret and an over powering urge to withdraw and run. Which is why I don't really have friends either. As soon as they get too close I pull away. Good thing my husband is holding on tightly!

That's very much the anxiety talking!

I was very resistant to medication and to working with a psychiatrist at first. My experience has been that GP's do not have the experience with psychiatric meds to really help you find the best meds and best dosages for each individual patient. Psychiatric meds are not like, say, high blood pressure meds. It's not one type or dose fits all. It's a lot of trial and error with a really good doc to make sure you get the best pharmaceutical treatment.

I will say that once I finally decided to see a p-doc that my therapist recommended, and finally found the right medication, it was such a relief!!!

BlessedRhiannon, so true finding the right meds is crucial, and it is a series of trial and error, but i'm living proof it can be helpful. It was a lifechanger, even to admit i needed the meds 20 years ago fighting it the whole way. once i opened my eyes up to my problems and symptoms i've been alot better on the meds.

Perhaps. But I am already withdrawing. Don't want to do this or be like this any more.

Is therapy supposed to leave you feeling empty, alone and contemplating death?

No its not. You really need to call your psychiatrist immediately. And if they offer hospital time, I'd recommend seriously doing it. Death is not the option. I've had Facebook friends who did the hospital time and it helped get their meds sorted out. And some meds can increase the suicidal thoughts in certain people. They all carry that warning label.

I don't have a psychiatrist...yet. I see him in 3 weeks. The t recommended hospitalization but I refused. He settled on a verbal contract.

Know the feeling. See a Therapist next month for preliminary evaluation. Then I get to wait to see the Psychiatrist for actual diagnosis. My General Doctor referred me to him. . Never saw my GD look so uncomfortable and out of his depth as when he decided I was bipolar. I actually wanted to hug hiim and tell him it's gonna be ok.

My therapist is not happy that I am waiting 3 weeks to see the psychiatrist. I had an apt scheduled for next week for a licensed nurse in psychiatry but if I have to see a psychiatrist I want those MD initials after his name.

Totally agree with you. Only the person with the MD initials can write scripts
