I don't cope well with surprises, but told my T that I thought this was odd because I dealt well with emergencies. It seemed odd to me that I panic about apparently small things, and am fine in a major earthquake, or being first on the scene of an accident.
My T had an insightful comment to make about that: he said that it was situations were I didn't feel prepared or know what to do that upset my balance, but because I like to know what to do, I was prepared for emergencies. I know what to do in an emergency because I have made sure I will. This really helped me understand my apparent contradictory reactions. Does anyone else have similar reactions to emergencies? |

I totally get what you are saying. If someone else has an emergency, I can think quick of what to do, and I don't freak out. I stay calm. But yet I can get freak out by other things going on in my life quite readily. Interesting how that is.
