Hi-

Yesterday/last night I was supposed to go some place w/ my mom & my Aunt..nothing fancy..like a fair. I washed my hair and did it, saw the grey strands, became extremely anxious...started to panic....FELT extremely ugly ( I am not) and could not go. I was paralyzed.

Earlier in the day, my mom & I were walking the dog & we met some of her friends whom would be there...one recently had an operation & I talked to her about it. Afterwards my mom said "I was proud of you"...me:"For What?" mom:"Well they were impressed as you sounded as if you knew what you were talking about.". WTH??? I said to her "well I have only been an operating room nurse for 18 years, if I did NOT know what was going on, there would be a HUGE problem."

I know it sounded like a compliment...it was not..it was a back handed insult. SO I was PO'd. I know she is embarrassed that I have never been married and never had any children and I am mentally ill. She thinks I am an idiot.

Sorry for the rant...but she triggers me w/ her insulting comments.

She did insult you. Are you sure we don't have the same mother? You SOUNDED like you knew what you were talking about? Did she have to sound so effing surprised? You're not fitting into the box she tries to squeeze you into. My mother tells her friends that I'm "slow". Big joke. True that I don't move fast. But I do have a high IQ. Witch! Anyway my sympathies. I'm not surprised you didnt want to go out with her later, but I am sorry you had to down yourself as an excuse.
Thanks for this!

kirby777i am sorry that you had this difficult episode. it is awful when we do not have the support of those close to us. depend on your own inner strength and you will find yourself happier. take care

It's great to have this forum to come to! Actually, it might be your mother is the one that's a little slow

Ugh.

I can't believe the things people say sometimes. They have to have some idea of the way it comes off, right?

sad that we have such parent who do not understand well being of a child.i am also facing similar situation thats why i can understand it very well.i have seen that bad parenting results into depressed children.its tough when one doesn't receive support of parents.we don't expect much from the other people as world is full of toxic people . but when parents also become toxic, where does a child go

I love my parents but when I just visited them recently, I turned to a puddle of tears when my father made some comment that he was irritated about me drinking a lot of water so much. I mean the way he said it was mean, but parents seem to know the exact words to rip us to shreds.
I'm sorry that happened, I am an RN too and if they implied that I didn't actually know what I'm doing, I would be upset too.
