I'm anthophobic, meaning I'm afraid of flowers. I'm not afraid of plants entirely, I have owned cacti and succulents in the past and they are for the most part ok. Though they usually end up dead because I'm less nurturing than a desert. It's mainly the petal + colorful parts of flowers that just throw me into a complete panic. I don't go to school on valentines day. I also have trouble eating broccoli sometimes if I think about what it is too much. I can usually eat it when its in something but by itself, I look at those tiny green buds and start to sweat and my heart starts racing... If you didn't know, broccoli florets are just flower buds, they are yellow flowers.

Anyway, thought I'd post here to see if anyone else is the same way and how it affects you.

I gather not, since no one else has responded. I would think this phobia could be treated, and it is interfering with your life, so have you thought about seeing a therapist?

this is relateable but not entirely. i used to be afraid of butterflies for a long time and when my mom would ask me to hold flowers and stuff, i would scream after three seconds and start running because i thought either a butterfly or flower was gonna bite. turns out like 6 years later my mom told me it was because i saw a movie when i was really young where such events took place, and i lived by it. point is, find out why they scare you and rationalize the fear.
Thanks for this!

I'm afraid of flying bugs as well. Any bugs that fly. Including butterflies which people think is weird cause "butterflies are pretty". Which I think so too, until I see one in person, then I freak the hell out.

Also rationalize the fear? I know perfectly that many flowers are safe. Rationally I know it's freaking stupid. I just can't... I don't know... What movie are you talking about?

I have been anthophobic since age 6. When much younger it was embarrassing but now I started to take pride on it because it is part of what defines me. Do you remember since when you are afraid of flowers? Are you also afraid of green plants? What about petals scares you?
