I get the same thing. For me it started after my panic attack. I never had it. Now I always have the pain. It is due to the tension. It hurts so much it makes my shoulder and arm hurt. I know how scary it can be. For like 3 or 4 months I thought I was going to die. Of course I was checked out by doctors and all is fine. One thing that works for me is the foam roller. You can get one at walmart. You lay down on it. It is the length of you back so it is pretty much on your spine then you spread your arm out like you are being crucified and it stretches your chest. Talk long deep breaths and you will feel the muscles release. At first it hurts because you are tense but after a few times it feels great.

thanks moralfe, yeah it can be quiet debilitating.. and depressing... i suppose you are right, its probably from the tension.. i have been to the ER a few times to make sure iwasn having a heart attack, which i wasnt (and which caused shame in me along with some nice dr bills)
im in CBT now and i try to use the breathing techniques and relaxation techniques but sometimes it feels the anxiety is too strong and i cant overcome...?

Cbt was a godsend for me. my therapist also had me do progressive muscle relaxation with the breathing. I know how it feels when you think you can't win buy I know it is not true. I went from thinking I was going to die everyday to I know I am healthy in a matter of 2 months. Once you learn the breathing you move on to desensitization and that is what helped me the most. You will get through this.
