I've missed two weeks of school and today I was sitting in class just drowning in my anxiety and the feelings of being overwhelmed when suddenly....hello contents of my stomach, wasn't expecting to see you right now!
Someone in my class pointed it out and when the whole class turned to look I got so embarrassed that I hid under my desk. What the heck! I'm a senior in high school, not a second grader!!
This is a first for me. I've never thrown up from so much anxiety before...and I've certainly never hidden under my desk from sheer embarrassment before.
Is it normal to throw up from anxiety?
How do you get over the embarrassment from that?

I do vomit when I have serious anxiety. My anxiety creates terrible physical symptoms and vomiting is one of them. I also get terrible headaches, diarrhea, chest pain and muscle soreness.
I find taking Mylanta helps with the nausea, that causes me to vomit.
Thanks for this!

Its certainly normal for me. I always get nausea and it usually ends up with me throwing up.
My anxiety was terrible when i was in school. By far the worst experiences of my life. I always use to just have to walk out the classroom and make straight for the toilet. I never threw up in class, but i was close sometimes.
I did throw up on the school bus though. i stuck my head between my legs and was so embarrassed i didn't lift it till we got to school and everyone had gotten off. Inside i was mortified and overall it increased my anxiety as i was worried it would happen again. although it never did.

I would say try not to worry to much about the embarrassment side of it, there was a couple of incidents where i was embarrassed. But you make excuses and get by. In the grand scheme of things what you did wasn't that big of deal. people will forget about it soon, they always do.

It's an uncommon symptom of anxiety, I'd say, but certainly possible, as you can see from the replies. Worth seeing a doctor. I've struggled with pretty bad anxiety for many years, and I don't think I've ever vomited because of it, ... that said, there were times back in my younger years, when I was so scared of going to school (bullies and stuff) that I was physically sick, so perhaps it happened to me, too. Is there anything going on that warrants such anxiety? What are you freaking out about? You may have just eaten something dodgy and the anxiety made it harder to keep down.

When my anxiety gets really high...I vomit...it happens a lot.

It being normal or not..is another story. I think when our anxiety is really high its a normal reaction. I think our anxiety getting really high as it being normal or not. I guess would have to depend on the situation.

Anxiety in itself is not actually abnormal. ...but it can be abnormal. I do not know if it was abnormal. I do not know what the causes are.

sooo I don't know...

I don't know if it's normal for other people, but it's definitely normal for me. I have thrown up before from anxiety. I like to call it "nervous stomach".
I also get stomach problems from high anxiety. I get nauseous and sometimes I get diarrhea or bad cramps.

Don't know if it's normal. Doesn't sound strange though since there's the phrase "worried sick". I usually do vomit when I'm very stressed or anxious about something but it's deliberate vomiting as in binging and purging. My anxiety is co-morbid with my bulimia so when the anxiety level is high all my bulimic impulses will show up.

Ginger People Gin-Gins Natural Hard Candy - 3 pack - 3oz Bags - Great for morning sickness and nausea!: Amazon.com: Grocery & Gourmet Food

Have a jar of these in your kitchen and a packet in your backpack and suck on them when the anxiety-related nausea first appears.
Thanks for this!

Ah yes ginger....It certainly does seem to ease nausea, and its delicious, though I'd be inclined to just eat a piece of raw ginger though the candy is good...haven't had the exact kind in your link but I've gotten some from this big asian grocery store near where my dad lives they have some interesting things there and lots of good tea.
Thanks for this!

Why do you think it's anxiety instead of a panic attack? Just curious.
