I was wondering if any of you took Hydroxyzine for anxiety. It is an antihistamine but has an off-label use for anxiety. I was wondering how well it worked and what the side effects were for people.

Hydroxyzine obviously can make you sleepy but it has very little side effects. I was prescribed it for anxiety once because the psychiatrist didn't believe I should be on benzodiazepines such as xanax and the like.

Yup, tried it. It basically did nothing on lower dosages for me. On very high dosages I could get drowsy but I also got hypervigilant so in a way I got more stressed.

I have heard very few cases where it works on its own. When it works it is usually to keep dosages of real psychiatric medications down.

I tried it. It didn't help.
