I'm not a physics major but I get so terrified by the Universe more. Yesterday, I've read an article about NASA's conclusion tha the Universe's size is indeed infinite. I thought that infinity is just a man made construct but it actually exists in reality.

I'm scared of infinity and everytime I try to distract myself I get more anxious, even talking to my loved ones.

In times like this I just wish I'd be dead just to stop the thoughts.

I don't even have to think of infinity to feel that way. Just thinking of the huge distances does that to me. When I think of the distance from here to the sun, the sun to the edge of our solar system, the solar system compared to the rest of the galaxy, and the fact that there are 100 million more that we can see, my stomach drops like I am on a roller coaster.

I'm not sure I can really wrap my brain around the concept of infinity. Though I think it's fascinating. And I can see how it is scary. But the universe is really no different than it was before inflation theory was confirmed. You are in the same place.

God, I didn't know other people shared my weird thoughts about stuff like that. I'm deliberately not saying too much, because I really don't like thinking about that stuff.

To me infinite space means I can have infinite clutter.

There are times it is scary, SO BIG...I can, for instance, only go so far on a summer's night connecting stars in my head geometrically, at some point the enormity of the sky stirs anxiety---not unlike the math I did not learn well--and it is the language of the universe....
But, I find comfort in the fact that I really am just a blip (not even that) in the scheme of things---I can create a small world for myself to be in when necessary, and yet, the smaller it is (say, being focused on one patch of garden, or a project) the more it feels connected to the Whole.

I remember when i lived in the city i grew up in, i went to the beach a few times. It scared the **** out of me!!!I never heard of anyone being afraid of the Lake, but i was. I swore i would never go there again. Much to my surprise, i moved into a house around the block from the Lake, i still live here, and i rarely go there, but it doesn't scare me anymore. Anybody ever fraid of the ocean or lakes? Also I was afraid when i went to Florida and swam in the ocean, i was scarred of that too.

I'm afraid of the ocean, lakes, water you can swim in, but not as a phobia. I just can't swim, so I would fear being even a little bit far in the water. I have OCD issues with waters, too, that I don't want to swim in it (there's fish poo in it, for example). But I am drawn to it, and would love to get in like I did when I was a kid.

I recall being astounded about the idea of infinity/eternity when I first heard to concept as a kid. It did not scare me but it surely infatuated me.

Amen to George H. My consoling idea about death and the afterlife is I imagine I either will get to see and do the things I always wanted to but never had the time and/or money ... or I will be so blissfully peaceful it won't matter ...

Yessss. I feel the same way my friend. I remember drifting off to sleep and suddenly finding myself thinking about eternity and the universe (and death). My thoughts may differ a bit from yours. I believe it was something like a existential crises for me. Anyway it's rippled through my life ever since. I find currently theories and hypothesis's about the universe frightening. I do think it's just me. The universe is indifferent and I must be of the "Glass is half empty" crowd.

I find the outdoors helps to a certain degree. It has in the past aggravated it but mostly I find it comforting. So does music - film soundtracks, celtic, classical.
Spending time with friends (Real time, not facebook etc) helps. Drinking, though I probably shouldn't promote that here lol.

If you want to talk more about it PM me.

I absolutely can relate to this. I also thought I was the only one who feared those things. I tend to get anxious thinking things like "What if we're not really here?"
