I've been struggling with anxiety and depression for most of my life. After my mom died two years ago and I became responsible for my schizophrenic brother, I started waking up really anxious and gagging uncontrollably for a few minutes while I'm getting to ready for work. Does anyone else have this gagging experience? If so, how do you handle it? I am trying to keep an open mind about what my body is telling me but it ain't easy!

That doesn't sounds like much fun, I'm sorry
![]() My anxiety doesn't always make me gag, but it has happened before. It usually just makes me want to puke (among other physical symptoms). And sometimes I do actually throw up. That's not fun either. I wish I had some suggestions for things that you could do, but I can really do is say that you're not crazy, and you're not the only one. ![]() Hang in there, friend ![]() ![]()

Rarely but it has happened to me. I started eating oatmeal each day and drinking Earl Gray tea with it. Then I take vitamins and supplements. It stopped after that regiment. Is social services helping you with your brother?

I haven't experienced the gagging with my anxiety. I am sorry to hear you lost your mother. You are a courageous person to take on the responsibility of your brother. My heart goes out to you and your brother and I wish you some sense of relief.

Thanks for the support from everyone. I'm trying to eat a little upon waking and use deep breathing to help myself. Be well!

I have that! Sometime it's after I eat, and sometimes it happens out of the blue.
This is what I do... -sit down for a minute -splash cold water on my face (or get some fresh air) -breath slowly, and tell myself I'm not going to get sick. |

This happens to me often in the morning. I try to jump in the shower basically to distract myself and to keep the process of getting ready for work going. It happens when I brush my teeth too. At that point I sit down and try to breathe. Sometimes I end up vomiting. I feel gross and silly that this happens. I try to remind myself it is just a symptom. It is hard though.

I also gag a lot soon after waking up. I sometimes blame it on not eating and feeling nauseous from it, anxiety would definitely make that worse.
