Whenever I'm at work, my right leg bounces all day long. It's totally subconcious. Actually whenever I sit in a chair it seems that my leg bounces. Is this a sign of persistent anxiety?

Could just be a habit or lots of energy :-) Why does it bother you? Some people "pace" when thinking, maybe you bounce your leg. Think of some way to make it more conscious if it bothers you and you want to have more control of it, or some way to put it to "good" use? Is it only one, particular leg? See if you can figure out/write down what you're thinking or feeling when you recognize it's bouncing. That's the only way you can know if it's because of anxiety?

I just realised I was doing the same thing when I read your post and it kind of surprised me!
I am feeling pretty anxious today so I guess it could be the same for you Maybe speak to your doctor?

It doesn't really bother me. It's just one more thing to add to the list.
I do happen to have a lot of energy today, but I am extremely bored. Also, I feel very paranoid whenever the "boss" is in his office. He can see me from his office because there is this stupid "open office" policy here. No blinds allowed, no curtains, no walls, everything open. I hate it.

Pughead, maybe I can cheer you with a story from a friend of mine in an open office like yours. He bought a goldfish and put it in his paper clip bowl :-) trying to make your point.
I'd put the bounce toward the bottom of my "list." Maybe you could ask your boss to put in a basketball "court" in the parking lot for lunchtime? :-) Sounds better than "twiddling" your hair or tapping your fingers (or clicking a pen, etc.). I use to drive my stepmother crazy with my hair twiddling, she couldn't mind her own business she was so busy telling me to stop it :-)

I bounce a lot - probably a combination of all said...
too much energy, anxiety, habit, coping to deal with a stress (fishbowl) I usually drove my x nuts in bed or sitting next to her. She generally wasn't very nice about letting me it was annoying her. I usually didn't know I was doing it, until being told. Though I'm bouncing away right now.

Oh, I do more than bounce sometimes.
I drum a lot with my thumbs on the desk and my feet.... I listen to a lot of death metal so the drumming is quite annoying for office neighbors. ![]()

This is going to sound totally made up, but there is such a thing called Restless Leg Syndrome. I just learned about it this year because a friend of mine has it. Here is the foundation's website: http://www.rls.org/NetCommunity/Page...d=178&srcid=-2
I don't know enough about it to say if it sounds like what your situation could be, because I know a lot of people (especially anxious people!) do a lot of bouncing of the leg and similar habits. Just thought I'd pass on this information just in case... |

What Tiodlliwi is saying is very real. RLS is uncontrolable. You will be sitting there and out of the blue, your leg will fly up. There is nothing you can do to control it.
I have this condition also. I also have a condition where my whole body will jerk. Sometimes, quite violently. It can be very painful. I talked to my doc about this and he said that it is caused by the spinal cord being squeezed and the muscles reacting. I have severe spinal issues so that is what is causing my problems. If you don't have any control over this problem, you may want to talk to your doc about this. It could very well be RLS. Hugs, Linda
