Does anyone else here have a fear of the dark as an adult? I was scared of the dark as a kid and for some reason just never grew out of it. It peaked in my high school years but luckily it has improved since then. I am able to drive at night now luckily and can be in a dark room for a few mins, at my house. I am going to therapy soon and plan to resolve this issue once and for all! I do also sleep with a night light and I get panic attacks during a thunderstorm if I think the electricity might go out. I would feel much better knowing I am not the only one who has an irrational phobia!

Hi, summerblueskies, and welcome to Psych Central! Maybe someone will come along before too long who has dealt with this issue as an adult. I am glad you are going to get therapy for it.

I am utterly terrified of butterflies, to the endless amusement of friends and family. I understand irrational fear. Good wishes for your experience in therapy!

Thank you! Photography is my passion but I hate being in the darkroom where photos are developed, its basically a room lit only with very dim red lights. So I want to be able to take photo classes without fear.
