So have only just been put on Duloxetine (Cymbalta) for Depression and Generalized Anxiety Disorder. I am on 60mg.
I was wondering if anyone else on here has been or is currently on this medication and if it has helped them with Anxiety and panic attacks?
And also if it does work how long it took for it to take effect?
Just want to know if it is any good because I need to get this anxiety under control.
Thanks!

I take 90 mg. I didn't see a real difference for at least 30 days. I have been more depressed since I began taking it, but my anxiety has gotten better. I still have anxiety/panic attacks but my overall constant anxiety has been reduced a lot.

have been on this medication for a few years now. Only med that works for my depression and anxiety. Took 2-3 weeks for full effect, but notice things before that. I find that I can't take the 120mg dose because it causes me to become very suicidal.

I hope this is helpful, can pm me if want/need too

good luck

Thank you very much for this reply! Maybe it will work for me as well! The only way I can find out is to try it I guess..
Oh dear, that doesn't sound too great about the 120mg because I also get suicidal tendencies but it is more an impulse thing so, I don't know. If they think it would work for me I would try it but with a lot of caution! So thanks for the warning.

It was very helpful thank you and you can always pm me too! I am happy to make new friends. Most of us can strongly relate on here!

I used to be on that medication and like most meds, they do help me out for the first few months. Then I feel like they lose their effectiveness.

I'm taking 90mg of Cymbalta daily for anxiety and depression. I have found it to be a lifesaver. If i don't take it my anxiety is debilitating so I have to be careful that I stay on top of it along with my other meds.

Be careful that you do take it. If I miss a few days I get bad headaches i.e. withdrawal symptoms.

It just seems to erase my general anxiety that pops up, the tapes playing in my head, and the "oh my God" that I keep repeating to myself. I have some major stresses coming up and I find I can still get through the day without worrying. Also, many fewer mornings waking up with crappy anxiety which ruins my day and happiness.

Give it a few weeks for sure. I really hope it helps.

Wow it really looks like it has helped you a lot! I am very glad that it helps you get through each day without all the anxiety and worrying thoughts! I have only been on it for a few days and I will give it a few weeks to see if it takes effect! Thanks again!

I get brain zaps with missed doses as well. Sometimes they can become debilitating.

I've been on cymbalta for around 4 1/2 years now, and like @GGChar said above, it has been a lifesaver for me. I went from 2-3 panic attacks a day to 2-3 a month. This of course has also been supplemented with weekly therapy sessions.

I'm on 90mg a day as well, and it took about a month for it to start being effective, it is the one med (of many!) that I'm taking I don't want to get rid of. The thing I worry about most with this med is that I love it so much I may never be able to get rid of it!

All that being said, be careful with it. I get horrible withdrawal symptoms if I go for 36 hours without it, so if you ever want to stop, talk to your pdoc about it first and don't quit cold turkey! Also pay close attention to any side effects you feel and bring them up with your dr.

One last thing cymbalta helps me with my chronic pain and nerve damage issues, so that's another bonus for me! Good luck and I hope everything works out well for you

I didn't put two and two together until you said that about the nerve pain. It is very true for me as well.

@detachedangst , yeah it helps with the erratic nerve pain, and I'm on other (lots) of meds for the regular pain.
