Does anyone ever experience their heart taking an extra beat every once in a while? I am full of anxiety today and it seems to be doing it more.
Thanks. |

Yep, I get it all the time mildly and sometimes really badly. I call those times "episodes".
I have been tested up the wazoo for everything and found healthy but I do have panic disorder. Doctor says its completely normal to happen and you can't die from it and that my heart won't just stop. In spite of everything it is a good idea to see a physician to make sure nothing else is causing it. I have found that deep belly breaths help. |

palpitations, heart doing flip flops oh yes this is how my anxiety started.....there is nothing worse than feeling your heart ! But it's true as long as your checked out to rule out anything else you will be fine. I am so used to these palpitations that they really don't bother me anymore. My dr. gave me a beta blocker to stop them but I still get them once in a while, these are part of my physical symptoms that I get with my anxiety disorder. Take care and god bless

Atrial fibrilation...at least for me. Happens. A condition that I fix with medication.
Freaky when it occurs. Get real dizzy and faint and out of breath. Like turning off a power switch. It's not a panic thing for me...just happens in my sleep. m.b.

I used to suffer from that often, but over the years it has decreased. But every now and then it still happens. I was taught by a friend that when I feel it starting to happen to cough. The cough interrupts the process and it stops. Hope this helps you too!

"It is possible to consciously notice a few minor disturbances of the heart rhythm. For instance, some people describe sensations such as a "flop" of the heart, the heart "skipping a beat" or "turning a somersault." We call this sudden forceful beat of the heart followed by a longer than usual pause an extrasystole. These premature contractions of the heart are usually of no serious significance and occur in many healthy individuals.
"In fact, because of several research findings, we now know that arrhythmias of all kinds are common in normal, healthy individuals. In one recent study published in the New England Journal of Medicine, Dr. Harold Kennedy found that healthy subjects with frequent and complex irregular heartbeats seem to be at no more risk of physical problems than is the normal population. In general, researchers are finding that the majority of even the healthiest people have some kind of rhythm disturbance such as skipped beats, palpitations, or pounding in the chest." http://www.anxieties.com/panic-step1b.php

Thanks everyone. I'm also feeling a little light headed. Not bad that I feel I will pass out, but just not normal. I know this is because of some recent sessions. I just wish it would go away. My Pdoc did give me some Xanax .25 mg once a day. Not enough.
