I'm going to be making a dentist appointment next week, I haven't gone in a few years. Have some really bad cavities. Hopefully it goes well, I always get anxious about it but my dentist is very nice

I am going on Monday and make myself go after some years of neglecting my teeth, after all it is only moderate pain at worst and will be over in 20 mins.
Thanks for this!

Call me a wimp but I ask for a small script for xanax before I go. Most dentists are understanding if you explain the anxiety thing
Thanks for this!

Good point - I was on one occasion so bad that I had nitrous oxide - it was utterly delightful but cost me plenty as I had to pay for an nurse anaesthetist too.

Happily I can, just, cope nowadays.
Thanks for this!

Good luck on your appointment! I'll be doing some "maintenance stuff" myself in January. I hope it all goes well - keep us updated!

Well that's over until February; 15 minutes of mild discomfort, £80 and I have teeth good for another four months. But was actually shaking with anxiety an hour beforehand - imagine that 58 and shaky because of a dentist, now even I think that is odd.

It will go well. Let your dentist know you're a bit anxious and he/she will work with you. I generally tell my hygienist and my dentist. There are more and more dentists practicing anxiety free and pain free dentistry these days, so you're in luck!
Thanks for this!

A good dentist (assistant) can make so much difference. I just got back from my second visit w/ my dentist in a week. Good luck... you'll do fine.

You're human . I had a horrible experience with a dentist as a kid and didn't go for 10 years. Fortunately, I was blessed with very strong teeth and it didn't hurt them.
Thanks for this!

Another appointment tomorrow morning. Getting a filling, they want to do one by itself and the rest another day so I'll probably have one more appointment next week. Definitely ready for the fillings, I'm taking much better care of my teeth now so hopefully when I get another cleaning in 6 months from now I'll have no cavities

By chance came across this: BBC - Future - How often do you need to see a dentist?
Thanks for this!

Well today is my last appointment. Getting two fillings done this afternoon. It's my 3rd appointment in under 3 weeks but its worth it. Then I'll be all set until my next cleaning in 6 months
