[I realize this could go in the bipolar forum, but I wanted input from Social Anxiety sufferers first.]
I'm certain I have Social Anxiety Disorder, though I have never been diagnosed. I have almost all the emotional, behavioral, and physical symptoms**, and I am constantly changing my daily routines to avoid stressful social situations. I am not exaggerating when I say I think about this almost all my waking hours, and it causes a lot of anxiety for me. I also have Bipolar 2 (mostly depressed and mixed states). During my depressed moods my self-confidence and self-esteem disappear, and I notice the social anxiety gets much worse during those periods. During my hypomanic states I become a little more relaxed in social situations, but immediately feel shame and embarrassment when I realize I went outside my very small comfort zone. Does anyone here share a similar situation? Is social anxiety common in people with bipolar (or major depressive disorder)? Thanks, Rob **based on the Mayo Clinic website

I'm bipolar 2 and just realizing that this behavior is anxiety where I thought it was either my BP or my personality. A pDoc recently put me on anti-anxiety meds and it's helping.
