A few weeks back I experienced my first panic attack. The fear, shock and amount of things which I could feel going through my head caused me to overload and I thought to myself. Nobody's ever managed to explain quite what's it's like and I've managed to come up with what I believe to be a really simple but effective analogy. In our head it's like we've got a series of aeroplanes, and usually they're controlled... But every time another stressor enters out life another plane takes off. There's so much any one human can take until there are aeroplanes crashing and burning within ones mind. This explains why you can't go through life keeping your stresses entirely to yourself because the way I see it there are two options:
Option 1) You can talk to someone about all the issues you've got because much like when you gain a stressor a plane takes off, if a stressor is being relieved one of those aeroplanes has landed reducing the chance of mass collision and in the real world, panic attacks. Not only this but stress down regulates your immune system making you vastly susceptible to many other diseases, cancers and even cardiac issues, so something as simple as talking to someone close could literally save your life. Option 2) This doesn't work nearly as often but when it does it works a treat. Let those planes out through your lugholes. What I mean by this is know that actually it isn't too big a deal and there's always a silver lining. Don't let it bother you too much. As I said though this is difficult to do, especially if you're in a state of unease. Literally, getting one of those crafts out your ear is like that scene where they've gotta blow up the Death Star. The chances of it working are so slim but if you go for it, if you at least try you've got more of a chance of it working than if you don't. So yeah, I hope that what I've gone through can help all you out there because nobody should have to suffer this. Let those planes go because seriously, from the point of you wanting to tear out your hair, it can only get better, and if you are ever thinking about keeping those aeromonsters in flight, frequently colliding with one another. Don't. Because you do matter. |

Thanks for sharing this analogy, Aeroman. Yes, stress will find it's way to the surface, & break out, one way or another. So I would agree. It's best to rid oneself of sress constructively, than it is to attempt to let those planes continue crashing, while trying in vain to keep the lid on. Best wishes...
