I have OCD and whenever I have a reoccurring thought (phrase or idea) that continues in my head for some time I often get sick to my stomach. I asked my psychiatrist about this and she says that she thinks that I get sick to my stomach simply because OCD is an anxiety disorder. She seemed very unsure, though. I'm confused, because these reoccurring thoughts do not always cause anxiety...they are more often annoying.

Does anyone else with OCD suffer from a sick stomach when they have a thought that continues over and over and they don't necessarily feel anxious?

Just wondering if I should have a brain scan or something. OCD and Nausea Question

Hi OCDonaStick,

Sorry to here you’re struggling with this nausea stuff. I don’t know enough about OCD to offer much of a reply. For whatever it’s worth, my repetitive actions seem to unconsciously relieve the anxiety which often tricks me into believing that I’m not anxious. Maybe this is what your psychiatrist was referring to it all being anxiety based. I don’t know if I have OCD. I feel like I don’t quite fall into the category because the repetitive behavior doesn’t severely interrupt my life. But I do know that my anxiety causes major nausea and loss of appetite. Anyway, I mainly wanted to let you know that I wish you well and hope things get better for you.

Hugs. ~ Bee

Thanks, Bee!

Actually, the idea that you present about the reoccurring thoughts actually relieving anxiety is very true. Like you, I get horribly sick to my stomach when I am feeling a lot of anxiety. I've gone for several days without eating at all when I have severe anxiety attacks.

Thanks for the hugs!
