I feel nauseated so much and it's starting to drive me batty. I rarely actually vomit, but it seems like I spend half my time trying NOT to. And I'm not really sure what's causing it. NO, I'm NOT pregnant. This has been going on for several months, so if that were the case, I'd know it by now. I have problems with heartburn and my doctor has me on Prilosec OTC indefinitely. Is nausea a side effect? Anyone have any ideas?

I don't know about the med side effects.
Ginger aile and candied ginger help nausea. Dark Beer also helps (its the hops that helps). I hope you feel better soon.

The suggestion about ginger is top-notch for nausea, and some pharmacies still carry 'syrup of cola' - it can help, too. Plain ol' Coca-Cola (yes, it has to be Coke, it cannot be Pepsi or store-brand cola) does the trick, too, but if you're having heartburn problems, the acid content can make that worse.

i went thru this a while back. i couldn't/can't take phenergan as i can't function. however, for several days i took a med that the dr gave me called tigan (i believe). it was great. after that time, the nausea was gone and has been fine since. it felt as though it relaxed my entire body, including tummy.
maybe you could visit the dr and talk about this? gl! kd

Petunia,
thanks for cheking in on me. i appreciate it. at the moment, i'm feeling fine. no problems today. the day i posted, i had 2 waves of nausea and then one again last night. last night i thought it would never pass, but finally it did. when they hit, i usually have to go lie down in order to keep everything under control, if you know what i mean. and i've found it helps to put my face on something cool. so sometimes that means you might find me sprawled out on the kitchen floor. an interesting sight, i am sure. at least i usually always have company there. the pets seem to have a need to come find out what the heck i'm doing. jammer |

take a piece of fresh ginger, about the length of your thumb and cut it up into chunks. boil it in a few cups of water for 20 min. sip when feeling bad. it will help the nausea. if it is too strong, you can add water.

I was having that problem at the end of last year & most of this year. I was hospitalized for about 2 months because I couldn't get any food or liquids down due to the nausea & became malnurished, needing IV nutrition via a central line.
Like you, I never really got sick because I hate that....I would just take a couple of bites until I felt sick, then would stop eating. It always has been my reaction to stress but stress never had lasted like it did this time....long story that has fallen under PTSD. While in the hospital, they gave me a med called Azmat (a nausea med used for cancer patients). Compozine I can't take because it gives me parkinson's reaction (how scarry thinking it was really the desease I had....not thinking that a med (a combination of thorozine & compozine) could ever cause that kind of reaction. Actually there wasn't any med that helped the nausea because it was caused from stress. There are many things that cause nausea....cortisol level, dehydration, side effect to a med....etc. It's hard to isolate the culprate especially when there is mental involved. It was so bad that I lost 10 lbs in just a couple of weeks....& had lost 10 lbs not to long before that & ended up way below my safe minimum weight. I have some promethazine left over from the nausea I delt with from my migraines & it now works a little when my nausea gets really bad. Phenergan & reglan wasn't given to me at that time but had it with the demoral for the migraines. I have heard that they work rather well tooI found that anything with any flavor made more nausea. It is very hard to eat when the nausea is so bad. I hope you can get some relief before it becomes a weight problem for you. Keep working with your Dr & hopefully there will be an answer for you, Debbie
