i don't really know where this question belongs but i guess it's anxiety related. i live in a very rural place and it is very quiet here and gets very dark at night. my tv is almost always on if we are home, usually on kid stuff, but the drone of it is a comfort. we have had one of those triple play bundles for the past year but now they are raising the price too much and we are going to have to get rid of cable tv. i know it should not be a big deal, and it isn't, but i'm wondering if anyone has other types of background noises that make them feel less alone. i know there is the radio but it doesn't seem quite the same.

When i need background noise I listen to music. That is the only other form of background noise that seems to help me out.
Thanks for this!

Will you still have network TV after you get rid of your cable?

Your post made me smile because I live in the city in an apartment and the surrounding noise drives me nuts. I listen to YouTube videos with rain and birdsong sometimes to try to drown out the noise from the neighbors with something more to my taste.

Everyone's different!
Thanks for this!

thank you for your suggestions. i think i will check out YouTube and iheart radio. it's weird it's just one of those thing i guess i've always taken for granted. i think we may be able to keep tv if we change to satellite so we're exploring that option, but I'm sure it would be better for my kids anyway if i turned it off more.
jo thorne, i know what you mean. i used to live near a big city in an apartment and the noises drove me nuts. funny how now the quiet can drive me nuts. at the same time i wouldn't trade it.
