If someone is an alcoholic can they change? Or is it a genetically passed down addiction? For example: I lack motivation, I also hate going in public, such as college. I also have a tendency to have trouble dating. Every time I get in a relationship it's all good until a few months where I start craving other females. I don't wanna be this way and I hope that we have free will and have the ability to change, and we're not just mindless robots stuck in ways from our childhood and genetics.

I do believe people can change. I know that I have. It took a lot of work, support groups, counseling, etc, but I was able to turn my life around. I'm sure you can too because you are seeking answers, it shows that you want to change and that is the key.

I want to change without taking meds. I've been incorporating small important stuff into my life daily, like chores/errands. I seem to be picking up on them slightly but they fade here and there. I am self employed so I work from home and I have such bad anxiety that I don't want to work in public. Unfortunately my business now isn't making as
Much as it use to, so I'm going to have to get a job doing something and this sky rockets my anxiety.

I have dreams, goals and aspirations of being what I want and don't know if I can complete it being the same way I am. I try to stay optimistic though.

People can change. They usually don't. Sorry but it is what it is. It's up to you mostly although some times there are euphonious moments etc

Somebody needs to work on autocorrect or spellcheck or whatever that was... epiphanous moments is what I meant to say.
And yes you can change. You really have to want it though. You have to want it more than anything in the world. And it's even harder than it sounds. You'll think of so many reasons/excuses that give you permission to slack. You'll tell yourself just this one time and then no more. Good luck.

People can change if they genuinely desire the change. As my Dad says, "A change isn't a change until YOU change!". I never thought I'd be able to stop drinking. I lost a couple 6 figure jobs because of my addiction. Then one day I got tired of being sick and tired. I got a sponsor, worked the 12 steps and went to several meetings a week. I'm proud to say I haven't had a drunk in over six years. All because I WANTED TO CHANGE! If you believe in a higher power ask him for help every morning. Most importantly, take it one day at a time.

Current Daily Meds:
3mg Klonopin
300mg Wellbutrin
10mg Lexapro
200mg Seroquel
