Hey everyone,
Today i went to a psychiatrist for the first time explained my story and he prescribed me prozac. I'm starting to have second thoughts. It seems so intimidating. Should I take it? I'm extremely anxious of the side effects.

Hi TCFlecke! Many people try new meds not being sure what to expect. They take them because they are hoping for a life not filled with the symptoms they experience.

One way to try a new med is to do a journal and record an hour by hour commentary of what you are feeling and how you feel different. If you work, start it on a weekend.

If it is not working or the side affects are intolerable, contact your psychiatrist and tell them of your experience. Sometimes the first med you take works, sometimes you need to have your doc prescribe other meds if first is not working.

I was just perscribed prozac on march 6.I have Generalized Anxiety as well .I was nervous about taking it at first too.I been taking it for 2 weeks with no side effects.I would try it to see how it works and just be prepared for the side effects. It might help with your Anxiety.

Would a follow up of your experience be possible? I am very curious to how this worked for you as you wrote this 3 months ago. I was just prescribed the generic for Prozac 6 days ago for severe anxiety and ptsd depression. I haven't noticed anything other than me being ridiculously tired. When did you notice any positive effects, or did you? Please get back to me because I am totally freaking myself out about this. Obviously my anxiety is still present..

dear friend

starting on an anti-depressant you need to have patience. when i was put on Paxil i slept for 16 hours a day for a week or so. the meds makes you sleep so that you don't spend time thinking and hindering its job. your mind is conditioned for so long thru your thinking process that it puts up a lot of resistance. it takes time to break that barrier so have patience.

I've been on prozac for panic disorder and PTSD for about 10 months and while I had to go up in dose about 5 months ago I find that it works fairly well. Well enough for me to want to stay on it for now. I hope that it works out well for those trying it. It took about 6 weeks for it to truly kick in for me so give it time if you decide to try it.
