When at night my anxiety peaks, I have really bad hallucinations and paranoia. I will see people or things out of the corner of my eye, and worry about someone grabbing me. I worry about people shooting me while I am in the kitchen getting water. Does anyone else experience an anxiety induced "psychosis" state?

sort of.
if i'm anxious enough about something that i can't control it, i will- relating to that thing. an example for me would be- that on hot summer days i get really anxious about the insects (or anything that flies), and i find myself hearing insects near me- and having them touch me once i get beyond the ability to control it myself i've had plenty of times i can remember where i've hid shaking, only for someone to come home and not spot the problem- eventually telling me nothing is their |

Its quite possible you had a psychotic episode with sever anxiety maybe? I get psychosis with anxiety but for me its either my psychosis is causing it or I just have really bad anxiety.

Well, the thing is that this happens every night. I don't know. I think reducing the anxiety will help with the paranoia and "hallucinations". The only way I can describe them is that they are like a ghost? It's not like schizophrenic hallucinations where they seem real, but instead it's not real. It's like smoke. See through?

I've had this kind of thing before. It's usually something totally irrational. Such as "Did I actually swallow the medication, or is it on the ground? What if....". Then I search the floor, and find nothing. Then I just go and sit in the back room of our house and freak out. Then when someone comes home and search for me it's a little bit better, but not much.

Yes and I remember one of my doctors saying there can be a psychotic component to anxiety when under extreme amounts of it. I get paranoid and can almost feel like I can hear people whispering about me and laughing at me

Yes, I experience this often. When my anxiety levels are high, I hear people plotting to enter my home through my vents, and I suffer extreme paranoia. Any sound gets my adrenaline going. I usually walk through my house at night with my steel mallet, and it sure helps a lot. We don't call it psychosis though, as I am still able to distinguish that I am suffering symptoms of my anxieties, and what I fear is going on probably isn't. But the physiological effects remain very real. I hope you can find a way to cope with this issue. As of now all I have is my hammer or my meds. I prefer the hammer though. I'd rather not become dependent on the type of meds I take for anxiety in these situations.

Yes. With anxiety really really bad even the "sanest" person can have psychosis like symptoms. I'm not saying I'm especially sane but I'm a very trusting person. Unless I am somewhere up high and outside, I have this totally crazy fear of heights which I can handle as long as nothing adds to it. But if there are other people around, my mind suddenly starts telling me that they are going to have a fall, or that they are coming to somehow push me over the edge!
I never suspect people of doing crazy things otherwise but then I am convinced if they come near me they will somehow murder me! ![]() |
