Anxiety has been a little edgy lately and the doc just prescribed me klonapin to take in place of xanax. Any thoughts? Never tried this drug before.

I was on it for a while and it didn't do anything for my anxiety. Just made me extremely drowsy.

It works when my anxiety gets really bad but yes, it does make me really drowsy.

It works for me most of the time. It doesn't make me too drowsy. Just a little bit.

It works for me. It made me drowsy at first, but as long as I take it with coffee I'm fine til the next pill, which I also take with coffee.

It doesn't make me drowsy, but I have a way high benzo tolerance. For me clonazepam is kind of a downer, where alprazolam just made me happy when I was on that one. Clonazepam is nice though because it lasts longer. For me it takes about forty five minutes to kick in (alprazolam fifteen minutes), so I'm not sure how well it would work if you have a panic disorder.

Good luck!

(And good luck getting off it if you end up with a pdoc who doesn't prescribe benzos in the future.)

Yeah, it takes a while to work. I take 3mg a day, not for panic attacks. I take Ativan at the first sign, and that works in 10-15 minutes. And yes, make sure any new pdoc prescribes it or will agree to a looooooong titration because it is hell to get off of if you take it daily.

Alright, I'll give it a try and see how it goes. Wasn't aware that it takes that long to kick in.

Def knocked me out after about 40 minutes. Still feel very "slowish" if that makes sense.

I love my klonopins for anxiety! It literally takes every bit of my anxiety away for the time being. All my worry and fears are gone.
Only negative(same with my sister, mom and dad who also take them) when you wake up from sleeping after taking them you will feel really sluggish and have a hard time getting out of bed

Run.... When you eventually need to come off them you will wish you did... It's not worth it... Run

It's true...Benzos are addictive. When you take them regularly you lose the affect and will need more and when you want to go off of them, you will need to take them to feel mormal.

Use them.as needed only

I've taken them as prescribed for years. I've come off of them without any problems when I don't need them. Only going back on them months later when the anxiety came back. So they are not all bad.

Consider yourself extremely lucky if that was your case. That is not the case for the majority and a simple google search will show that. A heroine addict once said it was far worse coming off klonopins then it was heroine.. So I would so they are all bad.. Definitely not worth such risk and had I'd known This before hand I would of ran from them.

To me it feels the same as xanax except the effects of klonopin last longer.

hi WntMyLfeBck

I really hope and pray this drug works well for you. But if you ever have to come off it . A phased withdrawal with the consent of the Dr. would be best. It will make anxiety more bearable but to really get a grip on it. It would be best to see a CBT therapist and googling one for your area would bring one up. Also keeping the mind distracted by doing, especially enjoyable things will take the attention away from anxiety, which would make it more bearable. I hope and pray this works for you and you have a really good week. God bless and best wishes from your friend Francis
Thanks for this!

It worked well for me in small dosage. Until doctor increased it. Then read below.....

Yes if taken daily hell to get off. Such serious withdrawals even with reductions over time.

That's how I feel. Wish it had never been given to me daily.

Been taking it "as needed". I couldn't tell you if it is working or not. It takes so long to kick in I don't know if its the medicine helping or just my anxiety going away. Explained this to my doc and he recommended taking it everyday for a week to see what happens.

I go to my therapist the next day and tell him about it. He told me how bad the drug is and the side effects / withdrawal symptoms that can occur.

The worst thing they can do with people with anxiety is give them a list of all the possible side effects.

Truthfully, worse withdrawal I've ever experienced. I wish I had been warned in advance about how bad it is to come off of. It also messes with your cognitive function, if you take it everyday for a long period of time. (At least it did for me.)

Alprazolam just makes me super drowsy as it does to my mother. I have been thinking about clonazepam. I hope it works out for you!

I could not agree more with everyone who has posted warnings on this subject.

I have been tapering off of this med for I don't even remember how long now... not long at all. It was prescribed to me for 6-7 yrs. or so w/o mention of the potential dangers.
My new med provider (NP) explained to me why she wanted to taper me off of it soon.
I don't see her often so I decided to go ahead and taper myself off of it.
This can't be as difficult to withdraw from as is stated all over the internet, I thought to myself.
Yes, it actually is.
And if what I have I read on the subject is true, withdrawal will get even worse... for quite some time.
I apologize if this post is triggering... to me it needs to be said. I would've proceeded with great caution had I known.

Hi there I just started clonazapam a week ago.. . 25 mg 1 in the morning and one at night. I am aware of it's addicting properties. I talk to my dr about not wanted to be dependent on it cause when I do need it or a lorazepam for accute attacks it works so well. Lately CBT has not been working too well and panic attacks are more frequent with steady high anxiety, extreme fear, worry the rest of the day. So after being med free for over a year and living in hell since early July he put me on this until Zoloft which I am just starting and kicks in. So after 6 weeks 8 maximum I am getting off it and using as needed. Like if I fly or go on vacation then I use it for big things to take the edge off. Slows me down enough so I can use CBT effectively.
