Hello. In Canada, we use the DSM V. But I decided to look at the ICD, and I noticed that it says you can't be diagnosed with GAD if you have social anxiety disorder and/or OCD, along with some other things that I don't remember because they weren't important to me to know at the time. I was diagnosed with social anxiety disorder first, then GAD, and then OCD. Does anyone else have two or all three of these conditions also? Do you use the DSM in your country or the ICD? I was just curious, because I wonder if I wasn't able to be diagnosed with all three, what would I not be diagnosed with then? Anyways, something I noticed about diagnosing differences.

it largely depends on what you say to your psychiatrist, and what the psychiatrist believes to be the most predominant diagnosis depending on what you are saying to him/her at that given time.

What do you want to be diagnosed with? And if you prefer one of them over the other, then talk about that more, and the symptoms for that disorder more, when you see the psychiatrist.

I am fine with all of them, but I just have read that in other places in the world, you can't be diagnosed with all three. But I was just asking about other places in the world. Thanks for the response ICD 10 and DSM V anxiety difference.

I think you'd still be diagnosed with the most prominent one, which is the most prominent one for you?

I'm diagnosed with all three, but my main thing is social anxiety by far. Then OCD. Then GAD. But they affect me differently each time. My GAD has been higher than basically everything else the last few days. So has panic disorder, which I am waiting for that testing. But right now, my social anxiety is bad.

Nothing. I just was wondering what other countries used though and what stood out to them more and stuff.

I thought all countries used DSM but can refer to the other one, but again, I don't think it depends on the DSM - it depends on the person making the diagnosis.

I am not sure. Maybe they all do. And yes, I know it depends also.

In the USA you can be diagnosed with more than one anxiety disorder... however GAD includes most all of them... to specify social anxiety as well, being a subset of the GAD, allows a better focus on treatment imo. PTSD is an anxiety disorder, but one can be dx'd with it and GAD as well, for example.

The treatments are pretty much the same... BREATHE... learn to identify the triggers, avoid the triggers while you work through the causes and change the mindset and bad behaviors created before treatment began.

Good wishes

I reckon all the diagnosis have anxiety in them, for me, when I've been manic, it is triggered off by anxiety and stress, so really, for me, mania is anxiety. when i've been psychotic, again it's anxiety and stress that has triggered, causing me distress, which caused the psychosis. with depression, I feel anxious all the time - so I wonder if the diagnosis makes any difference, anxiety is anxiety regardless of which diagnosis you fall under
