My anxiety is so severe, I am looking into hypothyroid possibly being a culprit here. Anyone have any experience with that? I came across a site called stopthethyroidmadness dot com, and was thinking to ask my good folks here if anyone here has made a connection between anxiety (and many of the other symptoms) and hypothyroid.

there is a definite connection between the two. that was the first thing my doc checked me for when i went in with my symptoms of severe anxiety. your thyroid can throw your whole body out of whack. effect everything from mood, appetite, and sleep, and on and on. definitely ask doc to do blood work to check your thyroid levels. good place to start.

good luck

Another thing I've learned this week is that fatigued adrenals can cause hypothyroid. Chronic unrelenting stress takes a big toll on the adrenals, with the result being they are burnt out. When that happens, the thyroid begins misbehaving. And lots of other stuff happens. Hormones go out of whack.

I was told by my endocrinologist that depression and thyroid disease are like the chicken and the egg...which came first? One could cause the other...or perhaps vice versa. I have an auto immune thyroid condition..."Hashimotos Syndrome" in which for some unkown reason antibodies attack the thyroid gland as if it is diseased. Caused severe depression, anxiety, delusional "conditions", memory loss, night sweat/chills...and a whole lot of other misery. Of course...I was depressed long before the diagnosis...just not as badly. I'm currently regulating it with a high dose of Synthroid [200] and blood tests every three months. That seems to work alright. I would say a simple blood test will let you know what's happening. Totally regulated! Good luck!
