After four plus hours of obsessive, meticulous rehearsal for how I plan to resign...I stopped myself. Enough was enough. And then suddenly I grinned and started to laugh. Really laugh. And my anxiety vanished completely. The whole situation is so ridiculous...and I, the angelic innocent, proper lady...was actually naughty. And you know what? I kind of like that fact.

I'm sharing this because, some years ago I read the book Something Wicked This Way Comes and its mainly about fear. How crippling, gripping fear can be. There is a scene where the father is facing a witch, and he started to laugh. Really, really laugh in the face of looming death. And the witch started to retract, and back away. Because his laughter broke her spell of fear and she lost all power over the situation. Ultimately she leaves him whole and alive. Out of the entire book that scene stands out to me the most, due to my struggles with anxiety. It had a profound impact one me.

I just wanted to share...I hope it helps some people.

I've seen the movie and love it! I agree, laughter takes the power away from the antagonist. It was healthy for you to see the silliness in the situation.

My mother always used to say, "If it's a matter of laughing or crying, you might as well laugh." I've tried to live up to that through my anxiety and occasional panic attacks. I even laugh when something is so aggravating that I want to tear my hair out. Why? Laughter is so much better for your health than crying or stressing out. And crying isn't going to change things anyway, is it?
