Does anyone have any experience with Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder (OCPD). I am going through a really stressful time right now. I have dropped out of my Master's program because of severe bouts of anxiety and depression related to my OCPD. There's part of me that would rather work in a grocery store or someplace similar for the rest of my life, someplace "comfortable" than have to deal with situations that might bring about anxiety (situations that might trigger my "high expectations" of myself).

I don't have the personality disorder but I can relate to obsessive and compulsive thinking. I respond though in particular to your description of needing a 'comfortable' worksite and employer. I know this need all too well. I place high standards on myself that are impossible to maintain or achieve. The anxiety that stems from the worry about failure takes on a life of it's own. I tend to take flight before things actually reach disaster.

Living with this fear is disasterous in itself. I think it may be this that leads to your obsessiveness. Just my opinion. I am feeling that this need for perfection in our 'outer' life translates to ensuring everything we can control is perfect. I wonder too, does your obssessiveness maybe have an element of superstion to it?

No superstition. My biggest fear is related to making poor choices / bad decisions / mistakes that end up disappointing someone important. I too tend to take flight before things actually reach "disaster" even if that "disaster" is irrational. I recognize that some of my thoughts are irrational, but the fear that's caused by having to face someone who might be "unhappy" with me because of my actions is difficult. That, and the feelings it causes (anxiety and depression) are SO uncomfortable, it causes me more fear.
