I am quite good at creative things, but I seem to find it very hard to make decisions. I just wondered if there may some people to talk to online to help me with my indecisiveness. Maybe I need company or companionship. Thanks

I have a problem with indecisiveness. I'm not sure how to handle it. Yesterday I made a decision. Today I changed it and acted upon it. Now I regret it.

Or perhaps the chat part of this website is more appropriate? Thoughts? Thanks

I wondered if it was worth seeing a therapist would help. I'm a honest person, quite lawyerly...

But I'm not sure what kind of things a therapist would do. I don't really feel the need to talk about my feelings or how my childhood shaped my personality. I'm not sure if there are different types of therapy?

Are you making some major decisions, or everyday simple decisions? Seeing a therapist is always an option, but do you know why you have this indecisiveness? You posted in the anxiety forum. Is this related to anxiety? For me I think it's a combination of anxiety and ADHD. You also can try to train yourself to make decisions, and live with them.

I guess it's part of my personality. I posted in this forum because it was the one I was directed to from 'other mental health discussion'.

A lot of my indecisiveness comes from not trusting my own decision making process.

That came about because of things that happened to me in my childhood, adolescence and early adulthood.

I don't think it's possible to work on the one without acknowledging the other, but that's just me.

With all that being said, knowing the why hasn't made the work go any quicker, but it has gotten some better over time.

I hope you're able to find a workable solution to help you with yours.

Sincerely,
Pflower!

Have you considered a CBT based program. Cognitive Behaviour Therapy deals with automatic thoughts and changing the resulting behaviours. As example I think catastrophically so I'm afraid to answer my phone, have avoidance issues, and procrastinate a great deal.

There are a number of thinking styles that could result in indecisiveness. This therapy may have an answer for you.

Part of the creative process is pushing past the fear of making a mistake. So if you are indecisive, just DO something. Make some kind of move. You can always change it. Nothing is permanent, there are no mistakes, just experiments.

I have begun just doodling with mixed media. Much of what I create turns out to be crap. Allowing myself the freedom to not be perfect was hard to overcome - and I still get frustrated with myself. I need to remind myself that not everything needs to be worth framing (beside I don't have that many frames to begin with).

This aret 'doodling' has been therapeutic though. It gets me working with colour which s both a treat and good exercise.

I've been keeping track of this art by way of pasting it into a journal.
