Hi guys, I needed your advice on deterring the side effects of Lexapro ( Escitalopram), which im taking for Anxiety.

Hair loss, I read somewhere that Lexapro may cause hair loss. Now i Know theres a lot of false, incomplete information out there, so its hard to know whether its right or wrong.

Is there any one taking this medicine as their primary line of treatment. If yes, how long have you taken it? Any hair loss?

Not in my experience. I was on Lexapro for a year back in 2010 and didn't notice any hair loss or other adverse effects. I've been back on it for about three months now. I have been experiencing hereditary hair loss for the past few years, but it doesn't seem to be any worse since I started taking Lexapro again. My doc says it has one of the lowest hair loss risks (less than 1% in clinical trials) among prescription antidepressants. I've been pleased with the results and lack of problems so far.

Hello. Yes, I take Lexapro as my main anxiety treatment. And I've taken it for about 2 years. For me, I wouldn't say Lexapro has caused hair loss for me. I have always lost a lot of hair, even before Lexapro. And there may be an underlying physical condition for me that causes hair loss, no doctor is sure. So I don't think how I am helps you.

Social anxiety disorder, ASD, GAD, OCD, and panic disorder

Lexapro, 10 mg; Ativan 0.5 mg PRN

Previous RX: Zoloft, 25-75mg; Lexapro 5-15mg; Luvox 25-50mg; Effexor XR 37.5-225mg

I have ASD so please be kind if I say something socially unacceptable. Thank you.

I have had hair loss and continue to. It's really tough to deal with. I bought some biotin to see if it will help. I also have a bit of memory loss, which of course is so much worse. I know 100% it's due to the lex.

I agree with the previous responses, even if this topic isn't new! I took this medication too for the long time and I've never seen such problem with my hair because of it... I think that in your case it's connected with smth else, maybe even with your genes, I recommend you to consult with a good doctor
Also there are some simple tips, like on machohairstyles.com for stopping the hair loss, usually they're helpful, of course if your problem isn't too bad
I recommend you also from my own experience to pay attention on massages of your scalp, try to make them with using different natural oils like the argan one, in such way you'll get a brilliant result!

Can Lexapro cause Hair Loss??

Actually, i haven't experienced any hair problems so far (genetic, or med wise). I was just worried, if its something that could happen. Thanks for the tips though. scalp massage is a pretty good way to relieve stress and get the circulation going resulting in happy hairs.
