I have had GAD for years, but no real attack for over 2 years. Yesterday I had anxiety all day but no idea why. My heart rate went up, I was nervous, panicky, fluttering heart beat, etc. Anyone ever have an experience and not have a reason behind it? No, no history of cardiac problems just in case you are wondering - it was just anxiety.

Many times anxiety and panic are very physical. That is, there is no particular 'reason' for the anxiety, it just manifests. Are you on medication?

No, I stopped that years back both because it was not doing any good and was causing me too many side effects. Right now I am without a doc bc I moved a few months ago and have been unable to hook up with a new one. I do use essential oils and diaphragm breathing and such and that works for each attack as they come but I just didn't understand why it was happening. Most of mine have had reasons.
Thanks for this!

I get that sometimes. With no obvious reason and out of the blue I will have anxiety attacks.

You're definitely not alone. Somedays, not very often, I have anxiety and sometimes panic attacks for no apparent reason. Those are the most frustrating because I can't tie it to anything. I hope you start feeling better.

I used too. It made me hard to concentrate and slept.

Tried to distract yourself, like games, work, hobby, etc. then if you feel your heart rate increas, take a deep breath. I just learn this methods too, it can help at little.

Yea I know how to manage it - just was concerned because it was happening out of the blue. Thanks though

I get anxiety out of the blue for no reason too. My heart will start racing and I feel panicked or feel like I have butterflies in my stomach. A lot of the time I can figure out a reason.
Thanks for this!

Coping With Anxiety and Panic

1. Remember, feelings of panic are just exaggerations of normal bodily stress reactions.

2. Sensations are neither harmful nor dangerous - just unpleasant. Nothing worse will happen.

3. Anxiety is temporary. Instead of fighting it, relax into it. Just let it be.

4. Focus on facing the fear rather than trying to avoid it or escape it.

5. Stop adding to the panic with frightening thoughts of where panic will lead.

6. Stay in the present. Be aware of what is happening to you rather than concern yourself with how much worse it might get.

7. Notice that when you stop adding to panic with frightening thoughts, the fear begins to subside.

8. Wait and give the fear time to pass.

9. Look around. Plan what you will do next as panic subsides.

10. When you are ready to go on, do so in an easy, relaxed manner. There is no hurry.

11. Think about the progress made so far, despite all the difficulties.
