I have enrolled for two classes this summer. I'm taking one now, but it is an online class and the other one doesn't start until July. I haven't taken a face to face class this year due to anxiety and was afraid of going to places for a bit. I'm taking Fluoxetine and have increased my dosage a few months ago. I'm kind of doubtful of whether i would be able to attend and sit in this psychology class because it's a 3 hour class once a week for a month.

Do you have any medication fot anxiety? Maybe your pdoc could prescribe a short term anxiety med until you get to your psychology class and do it a few times. Once, you're comfortable you could stop. Just a thought. Good luck and best wishes.

I'm taking classes online as well, but I know I have a couple where eventually I'll need to be in a classroom. When it gets to that point I'll probably talk to the disabilities counselor to see what I can get for accommodations.

Hello made08,
For me, what often helps sometimes with having anxiety about attending classes in person is to remind myself that the other students are also quite anxious and nervous about being there. It can really feel as if we are alone in this but it brings me a lot of comfort knowing that what I'm feeling is human and common. I also learned a while ago from picking up various hobbies/crafts that being uncomfortable is the best place to be to experience growth. So, when you can, encourage yourself to be in these situations because it can be a vicious cycle of not going to class and that heightening the anxiety even further. Keep us updated on how the class is going throughout the semester! |
