They're both awful, but which do you hate the most...anxiety or depression?

Anxiety is horrible but I know I'll eventually come out of it and sometimes the medicine and coping techniques work. Severe depression gives me SI and I don't know that I'll eventually come out of it, the medications often don't work effectively and sometimes I barely cling to my coping techniques.

That's a tough one. Anxiety sucks but there are tools to deal with it. Depression just sucks the life out of me and also gives me SI. I would rather deal with anxiety.

Most definitely depression! I think anxiety is partially the result of things that we once feared or should fear. When I have had panic attacks--I slowly learned that I was flashing back emotionally to things that were either truly scary or still felt truly scary because I had not dealt with it (for all kinds of reasons). Some people can learn to use anxiety to work for them (it keeps you alert, motivates you, etc.) but anxiety and depression together can just be a straightjacket or make you act irrationally. I do understand that some people may have anxiety so extreme that it could be worse than depression--but for me, if I am not depressed, sometimes my anxiety helps me accomplish good things--the adrenaline from it has helped me do better on school tests and pushes me to work faster and harder......

For me anxiety doesn't last too long. Depression, on the other hand, goes on for months, it seems. I hate depression.

I'd probably have to go with depression. It causes me way more problems.

Depression is worse for me as it gives me those intense suicidal thoughts that are difficult to ignore. I can also lessen my anxiety temporarily using deep breathing, for example. Nothing helps a bad depressive episode except time, with a little help from meds.

You are right, they're both awful. I would take anxiety over depression though. With depression I may stop functioning and be in bed all day...with anxiety I can try to use coping techniques like deep breathing or Ativan as needed.
