Hi. I have been having anxiety about serial killers. When I heard about Dennis Rader, my anxiety grew, and I began suspecting that my own family members were serial killers. I suspect that one of my family members may have Sexual Sadism Disorder, like me, but I know this worry is irrational. Just the possibility makes me nervous though.

You could educate yourself about serial killers (I'm sure you already have) about the probability of being attacked by one and how many the FBI think are currently active in this country right now to ease your paranoia. If it becomes too overwhelming, you could process this in therapy. Best wishes.

When I was a teen in the '70's serial killers were plentiful in my location. I became really paranoid about being abducted by one. At some point, my paranoia turned into a kind of interest in learning about serial killers...learning about the psychology of their minds. When I started learning about them, my fear of them lessened and I felt less like a potential victim.

I don't know if I would call fear of serial killers "irrational" they are pretty freaking scary
![]() Like the others said, trying talking about in therapy. If this fear is effecting your quality of life then you need to work through it somehow. GOod luck

Most serial killers are said to be antisocial personality disorder, borderline pd, and schizophrenic. Guess what I was told in 2013? I was told I have antisocial pd, borderline pd, and schizophrenia.
I've never done murder, and therapists always like me (except for a stupid grief counselor I tried in the early 90s), but I recognize I may have some traits. But whether I'm more afraid of them, I guess so. I consider myself to be very lucky that all those years I went to work at night I walked through the city at like 1 or 2 am and I never got abducted. All my life I took risks. Be careful, and don't take risks at night, etc. ![]() |

I can't recall the author but a book titled "The Gift of Fear," has really helped me with my anxiety and fears. It's available on Amazon and I highly recommend it.
