Hi all,
I'm not sure if this is the right forum, but I couldn't find a sleeping disorder forum. It's been about a year, maybe a bit longer that the moment I fall asleep I instantly get a bad dream, a little nightmare. What happens to me is, I lay down in bed and it always took me a couple of minutes to fall asleep. So, while I'm lying there I'm hanging in in my thoughts and there a pictures in my head. It used to be that these pictures eventually wandered off and got "unreal" and this is where the dream started. But now it is that these pictures immediately get horrible. For instance I am driving along a road in the countryside and then behind a turn the road goes vertically down and I jolt up. I see a person I know (totally random) lying in bed and when I get closer I see the person is dead and is blood smeared like in a horror movie. Or I see terrible accidents of all kind. Now, those dreams are totally different all the time and I don't believe that there is a particular "message" in there, as in an interpretation of the dream. But they are always really bad and make me jolt up in panic. It is as if "something" wants to prevent me from falling asleep. As if I wasn't allowed to sleep, as if something terrible would happen if I would fall asleep (like for instance while driving a car) and a "guardian angel" would want to save me. (Exactly this happened once to a friend of mine, he fell asleep at the steering wheel, but instantly got a nightmare dream, he woke up immiadetely and could just barely get the car back on track in the last moment). But what is it in my case? I just want to get a good night's sleep, that's all. There is perfectly no need to stay awake. The only way to prevent this is to drink a lot of beer before going to bed. I never drink during the day and that because I really don't want to. Even if I get offered something, for example a glass of wine for lunch, I always reject it. But by now I'm getting scared of the night and like 5 out 7 nights I drink until I feel I will sleep fine. But this is really no good for me. Can anybody relate? Any help or cure for this? Thanks a lot! |

Thanks a lot for your reply. However, I thought Lorazepam is only a short term medication?

Maybe try gabapentin and listen to meditation videos while falling asleep. Someone recommended Jody Whitley to me in this forum; I’ve been using those to fall asleep peacefully. My problem is anxious thoughts.
