Hey y'all, I'm Katt. I'm 27 and I have never had a license. Lately I've been having to drive short distances because my Husband license is suspended. I was doing so well that I thought I was ready to get my license. It turns out I was wrong.

I had to go pick him up from work Monday which is about a 15 to 20 min drive with 5pm traffic. I could tell the whole drive there that I was breathing extremely heavy but I just kept breathing. Once I got to his job and got out of the car I had the worse panic attack I've had in awhile. Thankfully, He was more then happy to drive back and let me calm down.

I guess the good news is I now know how long I can drive for before it becomes too much. I am still planning on getting my driver's license soon. I know from asking around that the driving test itself consents of just making a loop & only takes about 10min.

Don't let fear keep you from being free!

Wait, why are you driving if you don't have a license??

Driving a car is a huge responsibility. If you're that scared, maybe you should take a few lessons with an actual instructor instead of driving on your own?

I'm sorry, this is probably not what you wanted to hear but I am confused as to why someone who doesn't feel comfortable driving and doesn't even have a license is driving a car.

Well, I didnt have a choice about having to go pick up my husband. Uber wouldn't expect his debit card and I couldn't make him walk 15 miles home. The other little trips I've been doing are only like 5 minute drives, I usually only drive one way with my husband driving the other & that's because I'm trying to get more comfortable with driving and seeing what my limits are as well as he has a suspended license... Tbh I'd much rather get a ticket or go to jail then have him do so. Plus it's would be my first offense.

So, basically it's out of necessity at this point.

Is it possible for your husband to use public transportation or carpool with a friend. I get it but it’s not worth the risk. For practice, start driving early in the mornings or when there’s less traffic and have your accompany husband you. Once you get comfortable try driving when there’s more people out on the road. Good luck on your driving endeavor.

I have my license and have been driving for over a decade, but a while back some trauma busted into my life and my anxiety went through the roof and I found myself unable to drive for over 8 months. I would sit in the passenger seat as my husband would drive me and I would have panic attacks and feel like I was about to die. It was horrible. I did some counseling and started driving myself to the store that is in our town and small things like that and little by little I would stretch out the distance until I could drive whenever, where ever with no issues! So hang in there and keep increasing the distance just by a few blocks each time. But I think it would be wise if you got your license first in case there were ever an accident or you got pulled over! But stay strong and you'll get there

Good luck getting your driver’s license. I agree with gradually building up to driving longer distances.
