Hello,

Recently my anxiety gets worse if I'm listening to music or hearing certain noises, nothing in particular that I can really think of. It just randomly happens, like if I'm watching a YouTube video and a sound keeps being made, I get super anxious, or if the music is just an octave too high, stuff along those lines.

Does anyone else deal with this where their anxiety can be triggered by certain noises or music or sounds?

Yes, I experience some of that. I have periods of time when if something is too loud or sudden, I get very anxious. Also certain pitches of sound or certain repetitive noises. Now it's even worse because last year something happened to my right ear. It's not quite right when it comes to certain sounds. And I also have permanent tinnitus in it.

Yesterday, my son had YouTube on too loud, and it made me very anxious. He watches some videos where the guys scream and shout a lot. Makes me very jumpy.

I am sensitive to motor sounds like leaf blowers, lawn mowers, vacuums, and engines. My anxiety is heightened a lot when I am around those noises.

Those videos with shouting and screaming would bother me too.

Thanks for the comments It can certainly be frustrating to be anxious when a certain noise hits your ears, but you never know when a noise might irritate you.

Yes, my mom’s Yorkshire Terrier. Some days, I can handle it but most days I want to put a contract out on him. His endless barking really ratchets up my negative energy including nervous energy.

I am very sensitive to noise and unnatural lighting.
Both cause immediate nervous reaction. I literally jump when I hear a sudden noise, be it someone’s laughter, a door closing....
That is why I have such a difficult time at work. I have to deal with constant noise and very strong florescent lights. I strongly dislike it to a point “hate” would be the appropriate word to use to describe how I feel.

I can definitely relate to this, for some reason after my previous episode with Psychotic Depression, I became very sensitive to light. It's to the point where if a light starts flashing I feel like I'm about to have a seizure. With noises it sucks because I don't know when I will wind up becoming anxious, so it is impossible to avoid triggers without isolating myself, which I don't want to do.

Right now it's a seemingly endless cycle with the noises giving me anxiety. Such as when I become anxious from certain noises, or whenever I hallucinate screams or noises or mumbled conversations. The hallucinations trigger my anxiety, so it seems like anxiety is plaguing me all day long.

I was listening to the 'Deep Focus' playlist on Spotify last night because I had to finish a paper, I wound up having to skip every few songs or so on average because it just made me super anxious and irritated. Gotta love anxiety!

Recently I have that with almost any music I listen to. I have a very active imagination and always imagine whole scenes when listening to certain songs, but my anxiety about the future is causing my head to fill up with thoughts like "As if you'd ever feel this intensively in real life" all the time lately.

It seems like the music that I've been listening to from before my current depressive episode, doesn't make me anxious at all, but other random songs will or will not make me anxious. Currently just surviving through it until my anxiety gets put in check.

Noises! Noises! I can't stand noises most of the time. It just really bothers my anxiety when I hear a noise that isn't a typical noise. I am hoping that my newly prescribed Seroquel starts to help my anxiety so I can live with some peace of mind.

Lately, every noise gives me anxiety. Kids running, babies crying, people arguing, TV dramas that have people acting like morons, the list goes on and on ...

It came back again bad for me, everything annoyed me today...it seems like it might be impatience, like a short fuse but I've had to move around a few times today to try and finish my 8-page paper but I cannot escape the random noises bothering me. Meeting with the Psychiatrist on Thursday so hopefully I can get some new medication and get a handle on my anxiety finally.

I know people shouting, in any form, makes me anxious. I just shut down. Motors from the landscaper's equipment just irritates me to no end.

Hi I'm sorry you're struggling so much with this. I have similar experiences but it tends to be when my anxiety spikes & I become sensitive too noise or combinations of noise. For example more than one person speaking or the TV on & someone speaking.
