I hate being like this, so damn fragile. I’m feeling awful right now. I have to go in to my new job that is very stressful. Plus I have to work with a new colleague I haven’t met before. I’m so bad at dealing with these unknowables. Ugh I just want to disappear.
I would be so grateful if someone would write me some encourageable words.

I hope the day has gone well for you. Anxiety makes everything so much harder! You got this.

I cried my eyes out at my therapist before going in to work today. One thing I know: I’m not staying at that place that’s for sure. Just awful to work there.

Yes I’m really grateful for my therapist. I know I have her when I don’t feel I have anyone. It really means a lot. I hope you have a good one too. Lately I’ve just been crying a lot in front of her. I normally don’t do that.

I sympathise, Mat. Sending you very best wishes. My depression this year was sparked by work stress.
The benzos family of drugs didn't help. It was just like taking a sleeping pill. If you can leave the job you hate, that's great ![]() |

You are misinformed dear friend. Benzo's are not the monsters youre making them out to be. They are addictive in long term but so is coffee, sugar, wine, whiskey, sex and so many other things in life. All meds, especially psych meds are scary. I get scared as well. But we cant let fear decide whats good for us and whats bad. Benzo's serve an indispensable purpose in the treatment of anxiety. They are super quick to action. Other than addiction they dont have any other scary side effect to worry about like increased appetite, messed up sex life, tardive dysknesia, movement disorders, ect...They act quickly and bring down anxiety. A job none other med can do. Anxiety is a war. and you cant leave an important weapon such as benzo's and go unprepared to fight the war. Moderation is the key. Atleast reap the short term benefits. Use them for a month until you get settled into your new job and then if you still want to quit, you can stop without getting addicted to them. no one gets addicted in 1 month. so you are safe there. Most people end up taking them as per need basis. Like in situations where they absolutely have to get that extra help to manage anxiety. you have to weigh the benefits (which are huge, if it can help with managing anxiety, help you work, help you get social, i mean thats the kind of benefits that make them worth it)against the negatives ( which besides addiction and dependence i dont know if there are others generally speaking.) They are a necessary evil. just like other psych meds. Rest its your personal decision at the end. you dont have to take it if you you dont want. But if you are avoiding it solely based upon addiction and dependence issues, you should stop coffee, sugar, wine, and any other thing that causes addiction. If benzo's can give you your life back, or help you to survive anxiety in other words,,isnt it worth considering to take them? just a thought. Used wisely, and in minimum dosage that helps, taking them in situations where you absolutely have to, working with your doctor, can help you avoid any big problems that may arise with its use.
This is my personal opinion. I'm no expert. you should ask your doctor and maybe talk to people out here and see if its worth it or not. All the best. P.s you can try propranalol, beta blockers, as well. They are also fast acting and help with anxiety without the fear of addiction and dependence. |
