Happy Monday, all! My therapist is taking his first vacation after working at the clinic 4 years! (this December) & I've been a client of his for 3 years.
He's gone all month and I have a number to call ONLY IN CASE OF EMERGENCIES! I don't have the self-confidence to know if I can manage that long-on the other hand-I went 2 or 3 weeks without seeing him in Sept. due to other things. I know God is helping me and I can always talk to the clergy at church...yesterday's sermon really spoke to me. ocd |

Talk with him about it and work with your fears until he goes. My T use to go away for 6 weeks regularly and once was gone for 3 months. Think of ways to "mark" the time until he returns with a few rituals. Get/make 4 notebooks, one for each week and journal in them "special" for the time he's away, it might help you feel more connected to him.
If you have any rituals of your own for when you go to your session each week, keep them up (I use to have a long drive and would grab a handful of the large, individually-wrapped Life Saver candies to eat driving to and from -- I'd do that for that day of the week when my T was away still; grab a handful for the morning when I left for work, etc.). Routine helps children and other human beings like us adults :-) __________________ "Never give a sword to a man who can't dance." ~Confucius |

Hi there. I have OCD too amongst other problems. I find it really hard when my therapist goes away. I miss them so much but somehow I survive. It's really hard though. I hope that you are able to cope and find other people that you can talk to a bit to try to fill in that gap. It's good that you have your faith in God. I have that too.
You can always come here and talk to people. that may help you as well. |

I'm sorry he has to be away. That is so hard.
Talk to him about how you're feeling about the time he'll be away. And ask if he would clarify the definition of an emergency. You could also ask if you could call once on a specific date and time and see if he might agree to that; or could he call you? We'll keep you company here and on the psychotherapy board too! We often help each other in that way there. |
